Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Dementia and Autism

The Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Dementia and Autism (MHLDDA) Delivery Group is part of the Health and Care Partnership (HCP), whose vision is for our “health and care services to be integrated, joined up, and seamless; to reduce and remove health inequalities in a way that involves people, their experiences and our communities at the centre.”

The MHLDDA delivery group works collaboratively between partners to achieve change and transformation for those who live in Sheffield and who need help and support with their mental health, learning disability, autism or dementia needs in Sheffield.

The delivery group meets at least every two months, and has a diverse membership, including Experts by Experience representatives. It is for partners and is not an internal South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) meeting.

The delivery group has several priorities that it is focussing on in 23/24 and beyond. These include:

  1. Supporting people experiencing a crisis in their mental health (*this is one of the HCP’s five priorities for 23/24)
  2. Reducing waiting lists for people awaiting a diagnosis of neurodiversity, and delivering the commitments of the Autism Strategy (*this is one of the HCP’s five priorities for 23/24)
  3. Improving access, flow and discharge in and out of acute mental health units, especially for those who have to be placed outside of Sheffield
  4. Designing an integrated and holistic approach to children and young people’s mental health and social care
  5. Continuing the transformation of adult community and primary mental health and social care
  6. Recommissioning learning disability services in the community
  7. Delivering the commitments of the Dementia Strategy, including the memory assessment pathways
  8. Seeing a transformation in substance misuse services through the commissioning of a new service.

All these priorities are designed to be delivered with and, where possible, by, the Voluntary Community Social Enterprise sector, working together to address and reduce health inequalities in Sheffield. They will also be delivered collaboratively with partners, potentially through one of South Yorkshire’s provider collaboratives.
