On Tuesday 6th of June we’ll be encouraging as many people as possible across Sheffield to have a “what matters to you” conversation with someone. This is part of an International What Matters To You campaign.
Instead of asking people ‘what’s wrong?’ or ‘what’s the matter?’ we are encouraging people to ask questions that concentrate on finding out what really matters. You can ask this in many different ways. Try questions like ‘tell me about yourself’, ‘what’s working well?’, ‘what would help you to achieve your goals?’
Everyone can get involved and you can download and use the virtual background with these instructions.
But – why? What is it all about?
People are saying that having better, more meaningful conversations with others about what matters to them, helps them feel more confident, more motivated and more likely to achieve their ambitions. WMTY conversations help people to work better with others, to build their own skills and networks, and link into the resources in local communities. WMTY conversations can help people to get useful information or to overcome barriers and take advantage of opportunities. WMTY conversations can help people to have a better quality of life here in Sheffield.
This is really important to those of us working in public services. Things are changing and you can be a part of it…
Having better conversations about what matters to people in Sheffield is helping us to work differently and better together to provide personalised, asset-based support.
We know that ALL the things we do as a Council, in the local NHS, or through voluntary and community organisations have an impact on the lives and what matters to the people of Sheffield. By using WMTY approaches, we can align our support to best meet people’s needs and help improve their quality of life.
